Desert Control completes its first commercial LNC application in United Arab Emirates

Norwegian AgTech company Desert Control has developed a liquid natural clay (LNC) that restores soil and reduces water and fertilizer usage for agriculture and green landscapes. Following the launch of Mawarid Desert Control LLC in Abu Dhabi for sales and distribution of LNC in the UAE, local operations and commercial arms are now in place to deliver to government projects, agriculture sector such as farms, and landscapes with developers and landowners.

Sandnes, Norway, 29 June 2022 – Desert Control AS (DSRT) completes its first commercial project for LNC delivery in the UAE

Earlier this month, Desert Control announced the signing of the first commercial adopter. Now the liquid natural clay (LNC) project is delivered, treating soil for plants and trees with the natural AgTech innovation.

Desert Control deployed its technical team, field operators, and equipment for three commercial projects for liquid natural clay (LNC), starting at the in5 Tech Garden in Dubai Internet City; followed by two additional projects; a private organic farm in Al Ain, and the Pump Park in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi. It’s a big week for the startup, making its commercial launch in the UAE market after several years of pilots and independent validation studies.

Dubai-based business incubator in5 Tech, part of the TECOM Group, helped enable Desert Control in the UAE. During the business incubation period, Desert Control was given the opportunity to pilot the LNC application at the innovation hub garden, which accelerated learnings on the technical assessment and developed further the commercial framework based on the business needs.

Once Desert Control received the validation certificate from International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) in Dubai in 2019, and the operation infrastructure came into place in 2022; in5 Tech demonstrated its leadership in the field of sustainability by being the first to convert a pilot project into a commercial adoption of the innovation for its entire property.

The three projects have undergone soil and vegetation studies prior to delivering a customized application of the LNC for an optimal outcome with measured results on water and fertilizer saving, and additionally cultivate soil health to provide for a higher quality of the crops and healthier plants.

· in5 Tech Garden has an existing lawn area, several different species of shrubs, trees, palms shrub grasses, and vines. The application of LNC is combined with manual spray and in-soil injection.

· Pump Park has a mix of lawns, shrubs, and trees. The application of LNC was delivered through an existing subsurface drip irrigation system with additional manual spray for certain other areas.

· The private organic farm has a greenhouse and trees. The application of LNC is combined with manual spray, in-soil injection, and the use of existing drip irrigation.

In5 Tech is the first commercial adopter in the UAE of Desert Control’s sustainable environmental Greentech technology called Liquid Natural Clay (LNC). The project scope aims to cut the water consumption for irrigation considerably, whilst preserving fertile and healthy soil and plants in the landscaping area located in Internet City Dubai.

Together, In5 Tech and Desert Control are honoring their efforts towards UN SDG 13 Climate Action and SDG 15 Life and Land.

Developers, landscape owners, and farmers can benefit of considerable savings on operational cost, water bills, fertilizers, and maintenance while running their course in a much more sustainable way for all.

LNC has the solution to meet the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan – make Dubai green whistle freeing up natural water resources to address the more pressing matter such as food security in UAE and loss of fertile soil.

LNC is a hyper disruptive water saving and soil enriching innovation, due to its efficient non-intrusive adaptation for existing rooted plants and lawns which gives it a competitive advantage.

About Desert Control:

Desert Control specializes in climate-smart AgTech solutions to combat desertification, soil degradation, and water scarcity. Its patented Liquid Natural Clay (LNC) enables sustainable ecosystem management by restoring and protecting soil’s ability to preserve water and increase yields for agriculture, forests, and green landscapes. LNC enables sand and degraded soil to retain water and nutrients, thus increasing crop yields and ecosystem resilience while preserving water resources by up to 50%.

Agriculture and food production already consume more than 70% of all available freshwater. Desertification and soil degradation further increases water consumption in a negative spiral. Our growing global population will require more food in the next 40 years than was produced over the last 500 years, putting even more pressure on vital resources such as water. This is the problem Desert Control is determined to solve. According to the United Nations, twelve million hectares of fertile land perish to desertification, representing an annual $490 billion loss to the global economy.

Desert Control’s vision is making earth green again.
